Memoriam for Gordon Hansen - Birmingham Branch - 21/10/11 08:03 PM

We regret to report the death of Gordon Hansen, a member of the Birmingham Branch for many years. Gordon regularly attended meetings at Gough Street and with his wife, Olive, many of the Branchís events.
Gordon, an Australian, joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1942 and trained as a pilot. He came to Britain in July, 1943; after acclimatisation and operational training he was posted to 77 Squadron, 4 Group, Bomber Command, on Halifaxs. Gordon was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross at the end of his tour.
He was posted to RAF Fradley to continue flying for the maintenance unit and other piloting duties. While he was at Fradley he had met Olive. At the end of the war he had to return to Australia for a year to be demobilised. He came back from Australia, and he and Olive were married. They went to live in Australia for ten years, where they had two daughters, before returning to Lichfield. He joined the ACA in, about, 1980 and shortly thereafter started to attend the Birmingham branch at Gough Street
Gordonís funeral will be held at St. Michaelís Church, Lichfield on Thursday, 27th. October at 2.00pm.
