29 Squadron , Javelin's in 1960 - 25/03/09 03:10 PM

Two of the squadrons Javelins were involved in a mid-air collision off the north east coast of England on 21 May 1960 . One aircraft crashed near Hartlepool and the other came down in the North Sea off Scarborough . All 4 crew members ejected and were unhurt . The crew which crashed near Hartlepool were reported by the local newspaper to be ; pilot F/L David Wyborn , age 28 , of Yapton in Sussex and navigator F/L Derek Clark , 37 , of Woolaston in Gloucestershire . Excellent detail for the time ! I would like to contact this crew or anyone who may remember the incident which was a weekend air defence excercise . Thank you .

Hi David,

My father was the navigator of XA835 involved in that mid-air collision, on the way back to Leuchars (Fife), from that execise over Sylt.

Our father regretable died 2 1/2 years ago; sadly missed.

I remember the crash, all too well.
