12th October - a joint meeting at the RAFA, Wolverhampton, with our friends from Shropshire Branch.
20th October - a branch meeting (3rd. Thursday) at RBL Solihull
Dates for a visit to RAF Brize Norton have yet to be confirmed. It is possible there may be some seats available on the coach in addition to those already 'booked' by branch members.

I thought this visit may be of interest to our fellow branches. Brize Norton gave us the impression that they really wanted us to visit them. They have an excellent Website, details of contacts can be seen there.

The Birmingham – Solihull branch had the pleasure of visiting RAF Brize Norton in November. The arrangement for the visit was an invitation from the Officer Commanding 216 Squadron, Wing Commander Green. The arrangements were made by Lee Mclaren.

As well as seeing the Tristars of 216 Squadron, the visit included, 30 Squadron – Hercules and 99 Squadron - C17 Globemaster. At each Squadron, there was a briefing about the Squadron, then by coach to the aircraft. There was a lot to take in; but we were very well looked after and received a very warm welcome. Lunch was in the Senior NCO’s mess and very nice it was too. Those of our party that had been NCO aircrew during the war, and later, were very impressed by the change in standards of messing.

We were all impressed by the various operations, which go on round the clock, the technical skill, the work load involved. What we were all struck by, is the huge change in the Royal Air Force, as a service. There is still the camaraderie, the enthusiasm and the positive attitude; I am sure that many companies and organisations could learn much from the modern Royal Air Force.

We all would offer our sincere thanks to those who were involved; particularly as they did so at a time when they themselves were extremely busy.

Birmingham Solihull together with Shropshire Aircrew Association visited the Boulton Paul Muesum at Fordhouses,Wolverhampton,on Thursday, 12th April.
I am sure we all agreed it was a thoroughly worthwhile visit.
This is a small museum: the members are keen to build up their displays and are hard at work on a number of projects. There is still a lot to see, from a Slingsby Cadet glider, a Canberra Mk7, of course a Defiant etc etc. They are most keen to save an interesting part of British Aviation history.
Our visit was a pre-arranged party visit, after which we had lunch in Albrighton village.
Martin our Events Officer managed to secure this visit at fairly short notice.
Our next monthly meeting is Thursday, 19th March. Anyone who wishes to join us can either come to a meeting or phone or email our secretary, details on this web site.

We discussed a number of projected events were discussed. At the time of writing two have been confirmdred. The visit to the Brown Clee Memorial on Thursday 27th June is organised by the Shropshire Association. This memorial are to all the airmen who lost their lives on Clee Hill. Almost all were in training.
The annual lunch has been confirmed for Thursday the 31st May, andd once again it looks as though it will be well supported.
