From Jack Broughton, Chairman Aircrew Association Archive Trust

I regret to inform you that John Bown died on the 28th October 2011. John was the ACA National Standard Bearer for many years and was known world wide for his "handle bar moustache" after being featured on the front page of the Daily Telegraph (& INTERCOM) about 10 years ago. I first met John when he was on Air Traffic Duties at RAF Geilenkirchen in West Germany and we were living in a dormitory village in the Volkspark in Koln circa 1964.

At the time John Bown served on 205 it was a Sunderland Squadron based in Korea during the conflict and on the same squadron was former ACA registrar Fred McMillan who was casevaced home after having survived a bad crash at about the same time.

John was a valued member of the Westminster ACA Branch.

John Bown's funeral will be held at midday on Wednesday the 16th November at All,Saints Church Oakham when ACA members will be warmly welcomed. In true "Bown" fashion there will be a wake following the funeral in the Grainstore Brewery in the Oakham Railway Station (John's favourite watering hole).
