Message from Gill Chesney-Green:

William (Bill) Edward Goodman was in 7 Squadron based at Oakington. His service number was 1263380. As an Air Gunner/Wireless Operator he was shot down in Stirling W7471 on 6/7 June 1942 over Holland and spent the rest of the war in various POW camps (Luft III, Heydekrug, Thorn and Fallingbostel) before marching (and being strafed by RAF Typhoons) and finally being repatriated in May 1945.

He wrote a book of his life, and I published the WWII sections as a book in 2013. 'Of Stirlings and Stalags: an air gunner's tale' which tells of his experiences and mentions a great many names and various humorous incidents that occurred.

Bill, a member of the Manchester Branch of the ACA, died on 14 June 2002 at his home in Withington, Manchester.
