This letter has just been subitted to local newspapers by the Woking PRO to try to generate some extra members.

AirCrew Association Reorganisation

The AirCrew Association was formed many years ago by veterans of World War II with the purpose of fostering the spirit of comradeship engendered during their service and to enable former and serving aircrew to meet and enjoy like-minded company. Membership is open to all who have been awarded a flying badge of any category in the armed services, while others who have an aviation connection may become associate members.

Last year the reluctant decision was made to wind up the ACA central organisation in 2011 with the former branches becoming independent bodies and contact between them maintained through the website now run by the Woking webmaster. The Woking Branch has always been one of the largest, and certainly one of the most active, and has decided to continue in being as The Woking and District AirCrew Association, a title that retains the location where the branch was founded but also gives the nod to the much wider area from which it draws its membership. This covers the whole of West Surrey and parts of adjacent counties.

The Association holds its meetings at 1930hrs on the third Tuesday of every month at Fairoaks Airport, near Chobham, in the Flight Centre which has a licenced bar and ample free parking. Recent guest speakers have covered a variety of flying and other more general topics. The September meeting, for instance, heard an engrossing talk on the training, deployment and experiences of armed police officers from a former member of the Surrey Police Tactical Firearms Unit.

There is also a programme of visits to events, often of an aviation nature, lunches and participation in commemorative occasions such the Battle of Britain and Remembrance Day services. The support given to local and service charities will continue.

The Association would welcome new members and invites all serving and former service aircrew to come to any of its meetings or other events. Further details may be obtained from the secretary, Tony Boxall, on 01276 473553 or from the website,
