Sqn. Ldr. Ian Brownlie, DFC, died peacefully in hospital on 7th August 2012, aged 91 years.

As a pilot he served on 77, 35, and 297 Squadrons. Flying a Pathfinder Halifax on the last op of his second tour, he was shot down over Denmark after bombing Berlin in 1943. He was detained in Stalag Luft 111 as a POW and was on the 'Long March' in the winter of 1944/45 before repatriation.

The funeral takes place on Wednesday 22nd August at 2.30pm at the Woodvale Crematorium, Brighton. No flowers please but donations to the 'RAFBF- Bomber Command Memorial' and may be sent c/o P & S Gallagher, Weald House, 111 Lower Church Road, Burgess Hill, RH15 9AA.'
