Woking Memories

PAL DVD - Sqn Ldr Jimmy James AFC* DFM - 2 hours 40 minutes

DVD

“Jimmy” James describes his wartime service from school, though RAF training to the Western desert flying Bombay transport aircraft. Jimmy was captain of the Bombay in which General Gott was shot down and killed on his way to take command of the 8th Army. It has taken 60 years for the full story to emerge.

Immediately after the war, Jimmy flew VVIP aircraft and carried many of the great names of that era. Then, after a ground tour, he fulfilled a long-held ambition and transferred to night fighters to begin a new career as a fighter pilot from Mosquitoes to Javelins.

This is the story of a distinguished and unique flying career.

CD-ROM of Woking Memories

CD-ROM
The Woking book of flying memories, "Upside Down and Nothing on the Clock" is out of print, but has been republished as web pages on a CD-ROM.

The CD-ROM includes all the text and pictures from the original plus expanded and additional contributions with extra illustrations. The real change, though, is the addition of over 2 hours of video of members telling their individual stories. Varied, fascinating and very personal memories are brought to life.

The CD-ROM is for replay in a Windows-based computer only. Detailed requirements are:

Windows 95 or later
Windows Media Player 6.4 or later
Internet Explorer 5 or later with JavaScript enabled
Display with at least at 800x600 pixels and 16-bit colour
Audio output, CD-ROM drive and Mouse

Best results are obtained at a screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater and 32-bit colour using Internet Explorer 5 or later.

Security settings may need to be relaxed to replay the CD-ROM under Windows XP SP2.

Each CD-ROM costs 10 (+4 UK p&p where appropriate), from which all profit will go to Branch charities.

The video is necessarily very compressed to fit so much footage onto a single CD-ROM. Nevertheless, much of the material plays quite well at full computer-screen size. For those who wish to enjoy the full-sized videos at best quality, or who would prefer not to use a computer, there are plans to publish the videos on VHS tape and on DVD (without the detailed text elements) in due course.

If you would like a copy of the CD-ROM, please place your order by email HERE (leaving the subject line as provided, please) and indicate whether you wish to collect from an ACA Branch meeting at Fairoaks or to receive your copy by post. All payments must be in sterling. Overseas postage and packaging rates will be individually advised. Payment details will be advised when orders have been received.

An extract from the CD-ROM, but without the video content, is HERE in memory of Jim Sherwood, who died in June 2006.
