National Service Pilot
A recent meeting of the AirCrew Association featured an illustrated talk by guest speaker Bill George of the Chiltern ACA. Bill was one of the small number of National Service recruits to be selected for RAF pilot training and he described his experiences in this and his qualification for his ‘wings’ during his service in 1952-54.
Annual General Meeting
The well-attended annual general meeting at Fairoaks Airport re-elected all the current office holders and committee members. The position of welfare officer will continue to be undertaken by the secretary, Tony Boxall, following the resignation through ill health of the long-term holder of the post, Ron Houghton. Members unanimously approved a vote of thanks to Ron in recognition of his sterling work over several years.
Donation to Bentley Priory Museum
Treasurer Tony Rest reported a healthy financial position and the fulsome acknowledgement received from the fund to establish the museum at the former Fighter Command Headquarters at Bentley Priory in north-west London of the Association’s donation of £500.
Remembrance Sunday Parade
Other members reported on the ACA’s participation in the Remembrance Sunday parades, services and wreath-laying ceremonies at Woking, Brookwood Military Cemetery and other locations throughout the area.
