Successful 'Flying Evening' at Fairoaks
After the postponement by a month, the AirCrew Association's annual Flying Evening took place at Fairoaks Airport and proved as popular as ever.
Thanks to the efforts of the organisers and the good offices of the aerodrome and aircraft owners and pilots, ten aeroplanes made a total of 23 flights conveying 47 passengers on trips over the Surrey countryside. The conducting of passengers to and from their aircraft was most efficiently carried out by a party of cadets of the Air Training Corps.
An unusual visitor was a Royal Air Force Chinook helicopter of No 27 Squadron that flew in from Odiham in Hampshire. Members and guests were taken on a series of conducted tours of this aircraft which is scheduled to take part in operations in Afghanistan later this year.
With the weather remaining fine and after the flying had finished, a buffet supper was served to 99 people in the marquee and on the Flight Centre terrace. This brought a conclusion to a splendid evening resulting in a financial surplus to be donated to charities and the funds of the Woking squadron of the Air Training Corps.
