COLD WAR FAST-JET REUNION

Those of you, who remember the excellent reunion hosted by the Shuttleworth Trust in 2009, will be pleased to hear that Tony Haig-Thomas has invited us to Old Warden again, on SUNDAY 7th October 2012, for a unique Cold War Reunion, to be attended by former East German fighter and fighter-bomber pilots, on his final day before handing over his role as Aviation Trustee to Air Chief Marshal Sir John Allison.

Open to all who have contributed to our Cold War fast-jet heritage, the reunion will be accompanied by a full air display and the launch of ‘Thinking the Unthinkable’, a book comparing the lives of fast-jet pilots on opposite sides of the Iron Curtain.

As before, we will be allocated two spacious, inter-connected hangars, with a cash bar serving wine, beer, soft drinks, tea and coffee open from 1000 hrs –1700 hrs.  We have been offered concessionary prices of £20/adult (free to children under 16), for entry to a dedicated car park and all our reunion facilities, the Shuttleworth  Collection, Swiss Gardens, Bird of Prey Centre and Children’s Play Area, with the additional option of a buffet lunch, for £14.50/ adult, £7.50 /child (under 10).  Should poor weather limit flying, there would be plenty to see, under cover, but to avoid overcrowding attendance will be limited to the first 400 bookings.

To take advantage of the concessionary prices for entry and lunch (if required), and enable tickets to reach applicants in good time, bookings must be made before 23 September, and be accompanied by payment with credit or debit card, on 0044 (0)1767-627924. While all tickets are transferable, there can be no refunds, and failure to book ahead will incur full, non-concessionary entrance prices on the day, and forfeit the option of a reunion lunch.

There will be no evening function and Shuttleworth cannot arrange local accommodation. However, a list of local hotels and B & Bs can be found on the Shuttleworth Collection website: www. shuttleworth.org  while Caroline Ball, on 0044 (0)1767- 626200, may have rooms available at £70-£89/room (en suite), £40-£46.50/room (basic, shared facilities), in the Mansion House (a short walk).

Do try to join us.
